Badger Mining recognized for best 401(k) plan in nation

webmaster · April 9, 2019 ·

April 8, 2019 – BERLIN, WISCONSIN – Badger Mining Corporation (BMC) was recognized as the 401(k) Plan Sponsor of the Year at an awards banquet in New York City at the end of March. This national honor, awarded by PLANSPONSOR Magazine, recognizes companies that best “show commitment to their participants’ financial health and retirement success.” As one of four finalists in the asset category of $50 million to $100 million, a representative of BMC was in attendance at the awards dinner, not knowing if the company would take home the top honor.

“To have our plan named the best in the country shows a great deal about Badger Mining and the way its associates are treated,” says Jennifer Johnson, associate development leader at BMC. “Even during tough business cycles, our family ownership has always made it a priority to offer our associates the resources to plan for and ultimately achieve a healthy and solid retirement. With those tools, our 401(k) Team – which includes associates from all corners of the company, our company’s financial retirement advisors, Spectrum Investment Advisors, and our recordkeeper, Fidelity Investments – has developed this exceptional plan over the past several decades.”

The competition looks at internal metrics in order to select a winner. After elevating such characteristics as the company’s participant rate, average deferral rate, number of participants, and total plan assets, PLANSPONSOR Magazine chooses the best plan in multiple categories and announces the winners at its annual awards dinner.

“We were so proud to nominate Badger Mining Corporation for the Plan Sponsor of the Year Award,” says James Marshall, president of Spectrum Investment Advisors, an investment advisory company that helps BMC evaluate its plan regularly as well as provides financial sessions with each individual associate. “We have the utmost respect for Badger’s entire team.”

BMC concludes 18th year of special deer hunt for people with disabilities

webmaster · October 18, 2018 ·

BERLIN, WISCONSIN – October 18, 2018 – Earlier this week, Badger Mining Corporation (BMC) completed its 18th year as a company sponsor of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ (WDNR) annual deer gun hunt for people with disabilities. The WDNR began the hunt in 1990 in order to provide hunting opportunities for individuals with certain disabilities at a time of year when temperatures are generally milder and mobility in the woods and fields is easier – even though that certainly may not have been the case this year between the fluctuating temperatures and extensive rain. Badger Mining began participating in the program in 2001 for one of its now-retired associates who was injured in a swimming accident decades ago.

Originally taking place only at BMC’s St. Marie property in Green Lake County, the hunt has since expanded to include BMC’s Fairwater property in Green Lake and Fond du Lac Counties in 2006, its Taylor property in Jackson and Trempealeau Counties in 2008, and its Merrillan property in Jackson County last year. Throughout the four properties, BMC accommodated 17 hunters this year, 5 of which were new and 12 that were returning. Bob Bartol, the retired associate that was Badger Mining’s first hunter in 2001, was able to participate in the hunt again this year. He did not get a deer, but he certainly enjoyed being in the outdoors for two nights of the season. This year’s hunters ranged in age from 12 to 75 years old and came from every corner of the state of Wisconsin to participate.

For many of the hunters like Bob, just getting out into the woods and fields to experience a deer hunt is an opportunity that truly resonates with them. One returning hunter said, “Thanks Badger Mining, Green Lake County, the St. Marie property, and my great friends! I will treasure these memories forever!” And while many of the hunters are grateful for the chance to hunt again, the BMC associates that volunteer their time to help guide these hunters end up just as thankful and heartened from the experience.

Over the past 18 years, BMC has touched the lives of 105 different individuals, and even though many hunters found success this year, the deer is only a bonus. As a new hunter’s daughter said, “Although the buck was the icing on the cake, this experience with him and my husband was one I’ll never forget!”

“While not all hunters end up getting a deer, all come out of the hunt with smiles, new friendships, and simple gratitude” says Tiffany Thoma, environmental associate at BMC. “The lifelong memories made by all the participants each season make BMC’s decision to continue doing the special hunt each year an easy one.”

Badger Mining sends out first truckloads of sand from Kermit facility

webmaster · September 19, 2018 ·

KERMIT, TEXAS – September 19, 2018 – Recently, Badger Mining Corporation (BMC) sent out the first truckloads of sand from its new sand mining facility located eight miles north of Kermit. Less than nine months after breaking ground on its 1,280-acre property on Texas Highway 18, production and loadout shipments have commenced with the target to be at total capacity by early next year.

“It is truly a remarkable feat to go from a barren field to a state-of-the-art sand plant in less than a year,” says Mark Hess, advisory team member at BMC. “This would not have been possible without the hardworking associates on our team who have put in long days and nights from the planning phase until these first shipments and beyond. We must also commend our construction partners on this project. Their work – on this timeline – speaks for itself.”

Staffing of the facility continues with still-open positions being filled by visiting Wisconsin associates. Along with temporarily filling positions and helping train new Kermit associates, visiting Wisconsin associates are immersing new hires in Badger Mining’s strong Team culture and corporate values. To help with recruitment, BMC has purchased and built housing units in Kermit, including apartments, existing homes, and RV spots, to support new associates as they make the transition to the Kermit area.

“In this tight labor market, we are thrilled with the quality of the associates that have already joined the BMC Family in Kermit,” says Jenny Johnson, leader of associate development at Badger Mining. “Badger Mining is what it is today because of our associates. With our unique Team culture, great benefits, and growth opportunities, we are confident we will have a complete West Texas-based crew in place in the near future, continuing to supply our customers with the best sand and service in the industry.”

As BMC continues to ramp up production in the coming weeks, the focus will remain on the quality products our customers have long expected and received from Badger Mining. The Kermit facility offers two sand products – 40/70 and 100 mesh – both of which are now available.

“BMC’s Kermit Sand Plant was conceived, designed, and executed with the singular goal of optimizing logistics, mine-to-wellsite, and we are excited to play a key role in our customers success for years to come,” says Adam Katz, EVP of sales and marketing. “Despite some significant challenges in construction, we anticipate reaching full capacity by early next year and welcome current and prospective customers to reach out to us with their inquiries.”
