Badger Mining’s 2024 Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities
For the past 24 years, Badger Mining Corporation (BMC) has been a company sponsor of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities. With three locations across Wisconsin, BMC has provided 123 hunters with disabilities opportunities to enjoy deer hunting in early October when the temperatures are milder and mobility in the woods is easier.

A total of 12 hunters were able to participate and five were able to harvest bucks. BMC looks forward to continuing this meaningful tradition for years to come. Badger Mining welcomes public to 75th Anniversary Open House
Badger Mining Corporation welcomed the public to view their Fairwater sand plant and appreciate its rich history at their 75th Anniversary Open House on Saturday, June 22.
Participants began their day by parking at the Fairwater Historical Society and taking a shuttle bus to the plant and back.
At the plant, there was plenty to view, experience and appreciate. Little ones took part in kids’ games, while families learned more about local industry with the plant tours and industrial sand displays. Food and ice cream were available on-site.
Founded in 1949 by Clifford Chier, Badger Mining remains a private company owned by the same family today and is now seeing it’s third and fourth generation of family members.
Along with Wisconsin plants at Fairwater and Taylor, they operate a third plant in southwest Texas. The plant in Fairwater primarily supplies materials for the foundry industry. Its 800 acres include the former Utley quarry, now owned by Michels Corporation of Brownsville.
During the Utley days, the rhyolite there was taken to Chicago to pave the cobblestone street. Today, its main use is railroad ballast and general rail-building construction, along with landscaping material.
The Fairwater plant has been divided into two processes: dry process and wash process. All lakes here have been mined out and reclaimed. They are crystal clear, spring-fed lakes ranging from 42 to 70 feet deep and are stocked with various fish species. Tour participants also saw the active quarry area, and two pipes running along the roadside include one sand line and one waterline. All water is recycled through the system.
