BERLIN, WISCONSIN – April 25, 2017 – Badger Mining Corporation (BMC) associate Sara Joyce was recently awarded the metalcasting industry’s top honor at the American Foundry Society’s Annual Banquet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Joyce, leader of quality and technical assurance at BMC, was presented with the William H. McFadden Gold Medal award at the ceremony for her “technical contribution to the foundry industry through groundbreaking research, technical articles, presentations, contributions to books, committee service, and a commitment to advancing the industry.”
Joyce joined Badger Mining in 1980 as a lab technician, and after a brief two-year break, returned to BMC in 1984. Over the years, Joyce held many positions within the company including statistical process control supervisor and quality control manager, before becoming leader of quality and technical assurance.
Before receiving the Gold Medal this year, Joyce received the AFS Service Citation in 2004, was appointed the first female Division Council Chair in 2013, and delivered the Hoyt Memorial Lecture at AFS’ annual Metalcasting Congress in 2015.
